I'm watching GUA vs USA and one of the players headed the ball to the goalie who chested it and then picked it up off the ground.  What's the deal I thought that was illegal?

A goalkeeper may not handle a ball that has been passed to him by a team mate using their FEET.
A ball that is played to the keeper from a team mate using his head/chest/thigh is able to be handled by the keeper.
